| Look for 'Project Stars' Museum Without Walls |
Project Stars is presented by the Quality Of Life & Tourism Task Force of the Economic Alliance Houston Port Region.
The Task Force was formed to explore innovative and creative ways to demonstrate how industry and community can co-exist in the same place with attractive, easy to navigate corridors. The team developed a master plan, called Project Stars™ that targets our community’s Strengths (uniqueness) and Combines Art, History/Education and Corridor Beautification.
The plan capitalizes on Historic Heritage – Providing “Public Epic Art”, bigger than life 'Texas Size' murals selected to guide the driver toward and through the San Jacinto Texas Historic District. A “Museum Without Walls”.
And look for this local corridor on film media soon. Research by Native Sun Productions (an award-winning, full-service film, video, photography production company) for its next history channel production project.

| Restored! Sylvan Beach in La Porte |
The ‘beach’ is back in Sylvan Beach. The historic swimming beach shoreline is restored and upgraded with 1,700 feet of improved shoreline protection.
Two pairs of stone groins have been constructed on either side of the fishing pier, enclosing two 500 ft. long pocket beaches built with imported sand. Enhanced sidewalks, prominent landscape lighting, and extensive green spaces showcase a beach that was, in decades past, as popular as Galveston.
Experience the refreshing breezes off Galveston Bay as you fish, sail, kayak, or leisurely walk along the paths near the water at Sylvan Beach. Kids can enjoy the skate park and families appreciate the many grassy shaded picnic and play areas surrounding the pavilion. La Porte offers outdoor family recreation year round. |

| JUST ANOTHER FISH STORY... |
Life in the Bay Area Houston just about revolves around the water – charter boats, fishing, sailboat races, dinner cruises, parasailing, sunsets, the Kemah Boardwalk – and we like it that way. Recently, however, there have been reports that the water in Clear Lake is unsafe for any sort of water recreation due to contaminants including flesh-eating bacteria. These reports are simply untrue. They are merely a vicious attack apparently perpetrated by a malicious webmaster with a grudge.
Still concerned? Here’s the real scoop about our regional water sources;
When testing the water, the Texas State Department of Health Services determined that fish taken from Clear Creek holds a level of PCB, a chemical that may cause ill effects with repeated, prolonged consumption. There is no danger with water recreation; including cruising, jet-skiing, and even swimming in Clear Lake. Also, this has no effect on the seafood served in our local restaurants and fish markets – while this seafood is fresh; it has never come from Clear Creek. In short, it’s business as usual down here.
We are very proud of our bayside region, and we invite you to come down and see why we live in the “Fun Side of Houston”! |
